What is a community group?
It is the mission of the WELL to connect people with God and connect people with each other. A community group is a great way to discuss life issues, matters of faith and spirituality, discover specific application of Bible truths, and grow relationships with other people.
Why are community groups so important to the WELL?
Whereas Sunday morning gatherings are for celebration in worship, hearing the preaching of the Word, and sharing in communion; community groups provide the context for building relationships with others and living life together. Both types of gatherings meet different needs in the life of the church, individual, and family.
Is a community group like a Bible Study?
A community group is an environment for building relationships. Since God’s Word is not just for information, but transformation, the community groups are geared toward making specific application from the Bible teaching of each Sunday worship gathering.
What does a typical community group meeting involve?
A typical meeting involves a time of food, conversation, prayer, and discussion for applying the Bible to practical living. As the relationships within the group deepen, other events may occur (such as barbeques, parties, etc.)
Do I have to be a member of the WELL to attend a community group?
No. Leaders/hosts of community groups are required to be members, but anyone may attend to community group. The groups are intended to deepen relationships within the church as well as practically apply the teaching from Sunday gatherings, therefore consistent involvement in both is encouraged. However, we encourage members of the community groups to intentionally develop relationships outside the group/church and to use church events (such as Sunday worship gatherings and Community groups) as a way to connect people with God and people with people.
I’m not/don’t know if I’m a Christian. Can I attend a community group?
Yes. Being part of a community group is a great way to find out more about Jesus and the Christian community of faith. A community group is a great way to explore faith issues and life questions you may have.
Are my children welcome to attend the group?
We love the idea of families attending the groups together. Plans to accommodate younger children vary from group to group, so talk to your group leader regarding any questions.
How can I find a community group for college age/singles/young married/ married with children/empty nesters?
The WELL appreciates the value of relationships between people at various stages in life. Ideally, the groups will consist of a blend of individuals, families, and couples. We all can benefit and learn from each other.
